Top 10 cleaning jobs Brits hate the most – from wiping the fridge to scrubbing the shower

The most loathed household chores include scrubbing the microwave and oven, cleaning fridge-freezers, and tackling grout lines, according to a survey.

A poll of 2,000 adults revealed other detested tasks around the home such as degreasing the stove and cleaning the shower. Other jobs that featured include dusting shelves, tables and skirting boards.

The study, commissioned by Flash, found that top reasons Brits don’t clean their homes as often include being too busy with work, struggling to fit cleaning into their schedule, and only feeling motivated when expecting visitors.

“We know it can be hard to find the time,” said a spokesperson for Flash, creators of the Dust Magnet and the Speed Mop, “but little and often means you don’t need to deep clean so often.”

They added: “Beyond the practical benefits, cleaning regularly can also enhance your sense of well-being. A clean environment cultivates a clear mind, and the satisfaction of a job well done becomes its own reward.

“It’s about creating a space where you can truly relax and unwind without the nagging thought of looming chores.”

Almost half of all respondents (49%) agree dusting is one of the most neglected jobs in their usual cleaning routine.

Most of those polled admitted there are parts of their homes they haven’t dusted in over a year, with hallways being the least frequently cleaned areas of the home.

Over half admitted they would be more motivated to clean if they had top-notch tools to complete tasks swiftly and efficiently.

Yet, it’s not all doom and gloom as the survey showed that 40% of people are likely to give their homes a deep clean when seasonal events happen such as spring or when their children return to school.

“A clean and tidy home is more than just a nice environment-it’s a proactive approach to saving time and effort,” said a representive at Flash.

“By being equipped with the right tools to get the job done as efficiently and well as possible, it makes those daunting tasks seem a bit easier.”
