TONY Romo has praised CBS’s NFL game analyst hire in JJ Watt.
The Dallas Cowboys legend has been a CBS NFL broadcaster since 2017 and knows TV talent when he sees it.

In March, CBS announced that Watt will be an NFL game analyst for the upcoming season and be part of the network’s No. 2 broadcast team alongside veteran Ian Eagle.
The Houston Texans icon spent the last two seasons working on CBS’s studio show The NFL Today.
Watt will now be tasked with analyzing games during live game action, and Tony Romo believes he is up for the job.
The U.S. Sun caught up with Romo, who believes CBS, led by President and CEO David Berson, has made the correct decision to add Watt to its game broadcaster lineup.
“I’m so excited for J.J. That’s such a great leap in a positive way because he showed his skill set to the network, CBS, and David Berson,” Romo said in an interview thanks to his new Skechers campaign.
Watt showed the world he could call an NFL game when he worked the Christmas Day game with Eagle and CBS colleague Nate Burleson for Netflix.
The former three-time Defensive Player of the Year received positive reviews for his football IQ and his usual energetic personality.
Romo, who’s worked alongside legendary colleague Jim Nantz since 2017, believes that CBS struck gold with the hire of Watt.
“When you’re around J.J., you can’t help but see his gifts, his football knowledge, his personality,” Romo said.
“I think it’s just a home run all the way around, so I’m so excited for him and I think he’s going to do a great job.”
Watt’s new gig all but ends speculation of a potential return to the league.
He last played in the NFL in 2022 and will surely be a first-ballot Hall of Famer thanks to his 120.5 sack career.
“There is nothing better than the energy and excitement of being in the stadium on game day in the NFL,” Watt said in a CBS Sports statement at the time of his new role announcement.
“I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to return to that atmosphere each week, working with one of the best in Ian.

“While I certainly miss delivering hits on the field, it will be nice to leave the stadium without taking any, unless Ian decides to try something crazy.”
Watt will be replacing Charles Davis, who served as Eagles’ NFL broadcast partner since 2020.
Davis will be CBS’ lead college football analyst beginning in 2026.
CBS has confirmed that the network is not planning to replace Watt on The NFL Today.
Watt is expected to be the lone departure from the show this season.
Host James Browns and analyst Burleson, Matt Ryan, and Bill Cowher are expected to remain on the hit program.
