At the height of his fame in the 1960s and 1970s, Sir Tom Jones was touring the world performing on stages to thousands of screaming female fans. The charismatic Welshman adored the spotlight and had an eye for the ladies, admitting to sleeping with up to 250 women in his heyday. Sir Tom may have had multiple affairs but he always stayed with long-term love Linda. The couple were married for 59 years before she succumbed to cancer in 2016.

And loyal Linda was never afraid to challenge Tom as he once revealed in an interview with GQ magazine.

The Voice judge decollated how she kept him grounded, reminding him to stay humble when the fame was in danger of going to his head.

Recalling one incident, Sir Tom explained how Linda told him she would never forget his real name and he was not to become too ‘Tom Jones’.

He said: ”She was in there with friends and I might have been getting a bit ‘too large’.

“I had a glass of champagne, a cigar, and I was like what do you think of my house, and my snooker room?

“And she said ‘Hey! Hey what are you doing?!’

“And I said ‘I’m just sharing.’

“And she said, ‘You don’t really think you’re Tom Jones do you?

“I married Tommy Woodward [his birth name], that’s who I married.’”

Linda also was said to have lost her rag with her husband over his womanising.

Sir Tom said his wife even hit him after she discovered his fling with former Miss World Marjorie Wallace in 1976.

The Sex Bomb singer revealed: “I stood there and took it. She chinned me. When she let fly, Dai [his then minder] just left.

“I said: ‘Go ahead!’ She punched and shouted.”

Biographer Robin Eggar told the Mail Linda started distancing herself from the spotlight from the late sixties onwards as a consequence.

He explained: “In part, that is self-protection.

“What matters is that he always comes home.

“For years, whenever Tom has stepped through the door of his home he ceases to be Tom Jones, superstar and sex symbol, and instead reverts to being Tommy Woodward, the boy Linda married 50 years ago.”
