Three tips to avoid a big expense on kids’ clothes and keep bills small

CHILDREN seem to be in and out of clothes in the blink of an eye, they grow so fast.

Buying outfits can feel like a big expense, but you don’t have to keep buying new.

Here’s how to save . . .

SWAP: Organise a regular swap session with other parents where everyone brings outgrown kids’ clothes.

Do it at home and make it a social event with tea and coffee. Or suggest a school or nursery hosts a rail or table where parents can pick up and drop off clothes at school events.

SECONDHAND: The fast turnover of clothes from children can make charity shops a fantastic place to find good clothes at low prices.

Shops can sell items for as little as 20p and it can be worth buying clothes for them to grow into if you spot pieces at a good price.

Vinted is also a great place to pick up stuff in good nick at low prices, especially items that can be more expensive such as coats and shoes.

Or try thelittleloop.com — the site allows parents to buy discounted clothing, but you can also trade it in again when you are finished with it and receive up to 30 per cent off the resale value as credit.

The site also allows you to buy two “clear-out” packs for £2 and you’ll get £5 credit for every full bag of clothes you send back, with free postage.

SALE BUYS: Rummage through sales to get some fantastic bargains, especially discounted clothes that are coming out of season — for example, you’ll be able to buy scarves, boots and coats going into spring and summer.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Sainsbury’s Tu sale in-store, where clothes often have up to 70 per cent off.
