When it’s chucking it down outside, it can be hard to get the motivation to head into your garden.
Some may even wonder ‘What would I even do?’
But one keen green-fingered gardener shared that even when the rain is making you miserable, there’s no need to sit inside and wallow if you don’t fancy it – because there are plenty of things you can busy yourself with in the garden.
Gardening With Ish took to TikTok to share things you can do when it’s pouring down, captioning his video: “Rain rain, go… and make my day easier? We have plenty of it in Britain and it helps keep our garden thriving! Here’s a few things you can while gardening in the rain.”
He said he’d “love” to “stay indoors and have a cup of tea” – but there were jobs that he could be getting on with.
He said some things the rain “helps”, so he was going to “tackle” those things and show people what can be done when it’s chucking it down.
Ish explained he had a potted Acer, which he’d had for year, and he bought it for £10 from Morrisons.
The plant was “thriving” after Ish had taken care of it, recommending “a handful” of Acer feed “once or twice a year”.
He said the “rain helps to water it down”. Another thing you can do when it’s raining is “feed the lawn”, and he joked it was “free water”.
Also he claimed the rainwater will help the grass to get “growing” as the feed, plus moisture works wonders.
In the rain, he said he was also checking his “newly potted seeds”. He said it’s important to “check they’re getting enough water where they are.”
Ish said the soil was “perfectly damp”, so he was going to leave them in the same position.
In the comments, one woman admitted she was struggling with her Acer, calling Ish’s “beautiful”.
He replied: “Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that! I’ll be sure to make a little video on my Acer for some future tips if you try again! (Which you should, they’re beautiful trees).”
