Three dead, two injured and one missing after boat capsizes in Ambrose Channel near Staten Island



A boat capsized in the Ambrose Channel near Staten Island on Sunday, killing three people and injuring two others while one person remains missing, police said.

Authorities were alerted to a vessel in distress after the boat overturned around 12 p.m., cops said.

The NYPD, FDNY and U.S. Coast Guard responded to the waters, where five people were pulled from the channel and rushed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, according to the FDNY.

Three of those people could not be saved. One remained in critical condition later Sunday, while the fifth person was expected to survive, according to police.

The U.S. Coast Guard and the NYPD are continuing to search for the missing person, according to the FDNY.
