Tucker has been a member of the Ravens for 13 years, becoming a franchise legend along the way.
However, his future with the team became hazy after 16 massage therapists from eight spas in the Baltimore area made allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
Tucker has denied these allegations in multiple statements, calling the claims “shocking and heartbreaking,” but that didn’t stop the Ravens from deciding to cut him.
The first signs came in the NFL Draft, when the Ravens decided to use a sixth-round pick on kicker Tyler Loop.
A few weeks passed after that draft pick before the team announced on Monday that they were releasing Tucker.
However, the statement made no mention of the allegations against Tucker. Instead, general manager Eric DeCosta praised the kicker’s time with the team and insisted the decision was made based on his performances and nothing else.
“Sometimes football decisions are incredibly difficult, and this is one of those instances,” the statement said.
“Considering our current roster, we have made the tough decision to release Justin Tucker.
“Justin created many significant and unforgettable moments in Ravens history. His reliability, focus, drive, resilience and extraordinary talent made him one of the league’s best kickers for over a decade.
“We are grateful for Justin’s many contributions while playing for the Ravens.
“We sincerely wish him and his family the very best in this next chapter of their lives.”
This statement struck many fans the wrong way, and ESPN star Mina Kimes was quick to call out the Ravens for their handling of the release.
“Was this tone really necessary?” Kimes wrote on X.
She continued her rant in the comments of her first post in conversation with fans.
“There’s a vast spectrum between crapping on someone and singing the praises of a guy being accused by 16 different women of sexual misconduct,” she wrote.
