The world's longest road trip that takes 200 hours to drive across eight countries

Road trips are often seen as a simple way for tourists to explore a wide range of destinations at their own pace and from the comfort of their car.

Whilst there are many road trips that tourists love to do here in the UK, including the Atlantic Highway in the south west and the Scottish North Coast 500, Allianz Assistance has shared one trip reserved for the most ambitious motorists.

In a blog post, Allianz Assistance noted that the Sagres to Talon journey is the longest possible overland road trip, requiring 200 hours of non-stop travelling.

They explained: “This 9,414 mile (15,151km) journey will take around 200 hours of continuous driving.

“Clearly you’ll be wanting to break up the journey, doing so means you’ll be able to explore a number of wonderful countries from the start point in Portugal, through Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus and across the breadth of Russia via Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk and to Talon”

The journey begins in the municipality of Sagres, a location on the coast of Portugal that is renowned for its attractive appearance and a rich history during the Portugese Age of Discovery.

From there, tourists would need to travel through Spain and France, entering Belgium and Germany before heading east into Poland.

After driving through the capital of Warsaw, motorists would enter Belarus and drive through most of Russia, travelling to cities including Moscow, Kazan, and Chelyabinsk before ultimately reaching Talon.

Whilst the longest overland road trip would currently be difficult to achieve due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, those who achieve it would have an unforgettable experience filled with a rich mix of interesting destinations.

Tourists who want to stay safe and make the most of their trip would need to give themselves several months in order to travel at a relaxed pace, stopping off at the various cities in the eight countries.

Motorists would also need to factor in the cost of insurance and exporting their car to the starting destination and back home once the trip is complete.

Drivers looking to stick to one country whilst also enjoying an extreme road trip were urged to consider visiting Australia to cover the famous Highway 1.

Commonly referred to as ‘The Big Lap’, Highway 1 is effectively a 9,000-mile ring road that runs the perimeter of Australia and is widely considered to be the second largest street in the world.

Whilst one motorist successfully completed a full lap of Highway 1 in six days, tourists are often advised that they would need at least three months to do justice.
