The world's driest city where it rains less than anywhere else – not in Africa

The world’s driest city where it rains less than anywhere else witnesses only 2.65 inches (67.31 mm) of rainfall annually and it’s not in Africa. Yuma is a city in the southwestern corner of Arizona, near the borders of California and Mexico.

It’s known for its hot desert climate and is one of the sunniest places in the United States.

Yuma has a rich history, dating back to its days as a crossing point on the Colorado River. It played a key role during the gold rush era as a gateway for travellers heading west.

It is also the sunniest city in the world, receiving about 4,015 hours of sunshine out of a possible 4,456 hours of daylight each year.

Rainfall is a more common term for precipitation, and precipitation is defined as “the amount, usually expressed in millimeters or inches of liquid water depth, of the water substance that has fallen at a given point over a specified period of time.”

The main forms of precipitation are rain, drizzle, snow, sleet, freezing rain, and hail.

The city is home to several notable attractions such as Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park which is a former prison.

It is now a museum showcasing the region’s Old West history.

Tourists can also visit Colorado River which offers recreational activities like boating, fishing, and kayaking, and its banks are popular for camping.

Another popular spot is the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area.

It is a historical site that highlights Yuma’s role as a major crossing point on the river during the 19th century.

Just outside of Yuma, there are Imperial Sand Dunes which are a popular spot for off-roading and other outdoor activities.
