Fans of The Walking Dead fear for Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) life after he came to blows with Beta (Ryan Hurst) in episode 13, entitled Chokepoint.
The drama unfolded when Connie (Lauren Ridloff) lead Daryl, Linda (Cassady McClincy) and Henry (Matt Lintzs) to a building where her group used to stash emergency supplies via a secret passageway under the floor on the top level.
Stairs leading up to the space were barricaded so if the Whisperers came after them they would be forced to reveal themselves, as Walkers would be unable to climb the barrier.
Of course, Beta came for them and fell for their trap, leading to the group splitting up to defend themselves from the Whisperers.
Daryl hid Lydia in a closet with Dog for protection after she and Henry professed their feelings for one another.
When the Whisperers attacked, Henry was stabbed in the leg, but his life was sparred as Lydia rushed to his aid and unleashed Dog on his assassin when she heard screams.
Eventually, Daryl and Beta confronted each other, with the two trading blows in a brutal showdown, which saw the combat take place in a makeshift room.
The distorted space had white sheets of cloth hanging from the ceiling, which obscured their vision, but added tension to the scene.
While Daryl was quick and agile, Beta matched his expertise with tenacity and wild ambition, striking the good guy on a number of occasions.
Daryl could not defeat him head on, so outsmarted the villain by hiding in Connie’s emergency stash space and reappearing to push him down an elevator shaft.
As Beta’s body met the solid ground a loud thud could be heard, indicating the long fall down.
With Henry injured, Daryl rallied the others and planned to head to Alexandria to patch him up.
However, he understood they could not stay there for long as the Whisperers could track them to the community.
So he told to the group, including Lydia, who he was starting to warm to, that they must keep running.
Those were wise words as Beta did not die in the fall and was seen waking up on top of an abandoned elevator with a fearsome look on his face.
The scene concerned fans of the show, who worried Beta would come after Daryl and company to finish the job.
On Twitter, one person complained: “Beta is still alive. Daryl should have checked,” while another said: “Here comes Beta.”
“Nooo. Daryl should have made sure Beta was actually dead before he walked away,” a third viewer insisted.
A fourth said: “Beta is officially the Michael Myers of The Walking Dead,” whilst another added: “Beta is one scary, scary man.”
The Walking Dead season 9 continues Sunday on AMC and the following Monday at 9pm on Fox in the UK.
