The Walking Dead viewers were elated this weekend as they witnessed Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) finally take on Beta (Ryan Hurst).

Since Beta’s arrival on the scene viewers have been hoping the pair would clash as leaders in their respective communities.

The incredible force of Beta was demonstrated in a horrific manner, as he punched through a wall to take down the road warrior Daryl.

Although the pair escaped from the fight relatively unharmed for now, it sounds like their battle is not over just yet.

The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang recently hinted at what is to come for the duo after their first foray into rivalry.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly she began by praising the incredible fight scene, saying: “I mean, if you have Beta and you have Daryl, and they’re in the same universe, you kind of need them to fight, right?!

“That was the thinking — just, that’s f*****g cool, and we want to see that happen!”

She went on to hint: “It does, of course, play into a larger story.

“But Beta is sort of the leader of their army, and, Daryl being Daryl, you want to see those guys go head to head. “

“I think both Norman and Ryan Hurst, they did such an amazing job,” she added.

“Everybody involved in making the sequence, stunts, the director Lesil Tommy – everybody just did such an amazing job.”

While viewers are no doubt excited to see the return of Beta and Daryl’s aggravated discussions in upcoming episodes, what could Angela be hinting towards?

Their struggle for power will most likely resurface, but will it come into play for the plot of the show?

The “larger story” Angela spoke about could have something to do with the upcoming fair event.

The Whisperers will surely find the time to interrupt this impending merriment – but will Daryl be at the front line of defence?

Meanwhile Angela recently spoke out about the arrival of a brand new evil force: The Highwaymen.

Their arrival was signposted with a harrowing message which was found by Carol (Melissa McBride) and Ezekiel (Khary Payton).

Angela announced: “They’ve got a giant obstacle that they’ve got to deal with, and they don’t know exactly what the script is like, or how much danger they pose.

“There’s going to be some action and excitement that comes out of that.”

The Walking Dead season 9 continues Sunday on AMC and Monday at 9pm on FOX in the UK.
