Half the panel on ABC’s “The View” donned black outfits Wednesday following Donald Trump’s Election Day defeat of Kamala Harris, whom the talk show largely favored.
While the six women weren’t joyful over Tuesday’s outcome, they struck a conciliatory tone, seemingly content to make fashion statements. Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro and former Trump Administration staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin wore mostly or all black outfits while accepting the results of the election.
“My takeaway is that the system worked,” Behar conceded. “We live in a democracy. People spoke. This is what people wanted.”
Behar stated she “vehemently” disagreed with voters choosing Trump, but expressed gratitude for the democratic process.
“We should value it,” the 82-year-old comic said.
Navarro also conceded Harris lost a free and fair election and vowed to remain active in fighting to shape the future of the country.
“I make a commitment to our LGBTQ, to our immigrants, to our elderly, to our young girls, to the women, that we will not stop fighting,” she said.
Whoopi Goldberg, the program’s moderator, opted for a white shirt under a pink floral jacket while painting an overall rosy picture of New Yorkers getting on with their lives Wednesday morning.
“That’s what we have to do,” she said, though making it clear that accepting Trump’s win and liking him aren’t synonymous.
“I’m still not going to say his name,” Goldberg said to a round of applause.
Trump has referred to pundits on “The View” as “dumb” and “demented” on the campaign trail. They’ve used similar rhetoric to describe the president-elect.
Harris appeared on the popular ABC program while campaigning last month.
