The most reliable new car with only four UK drivers scrapping them in the last 10 years

The vehicle recycling company National Scrap Car has shared the most reliable cars currently on UK roads.

With motorists typically keeping their cars for longer, a growing number of buyers are prioritising the reliability and cost of maintenance of their next vehicle.

According to the company, who used Freedom of Information (FOI) requests to see how many examples were taken off the road between 2014 and 2023, the most reliable car in the UK is the Lexus RX.

Part of the Japanese luxury company’s range since 1998, this SUV is now in its fifth generation. Featuring bold styling, the latest RX uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain and eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Whilst new examples are certainly pricey, starting from £62,140, few examples go wrong, with just four Lexus RXs scrapped during the past decade, according to the data.

Another particularly reliable car that was recommended by National Scrap Car is the Volvo XC line of crossovers and SUVs.

Another set of high-end models, the Volvo XC series features a mix of conventional petrol and diesel engines, hybrids and fully-electric models.

According to the company, the XC range received a score of 99.67 percent, with the DVLA noting that just 47 were taken off the roads between 2014 and 2023.

National Scrap Car recommended that drivers looking for a used model that is both reliable and incredibly fun to drive should opt for a Mini Roadster.

Only built from 2012 to 2015, the Roadster was Mini’s ill-fated attempt to turn their ever-popular supermini into a sleeker sportscar, with a 0-62mph acceleration time of 8.9 seconds.

Despite not being the most popular model, the Mini Roadster is certainly reliable, with just four scrapped since 2014.
