The 'magic' natural item you likely have at home that can deep-clean carpets in 15 mins

Paul Brewster, a flooring expert from Flooring Hut, revealed one natural ingredient you likely have at home could work wonders at refreshing carpets.

“Keeping your carpets clean and free of stubborn odours doesn’t always require harsh shop-bought products,” said Mr Brewster. “Natural ingredients can be just as effective and are often safer for your family and pets.”

His “go-to natural ingredient” to deep clean carpets is baking soda; Mr Brewster explained: “Baking soda is a go-to natural ingredient for neutralising odours.

“Its porous nature allows it to absorb unwanted smells effectively. To use it, simply sprinkle a generous amount over areas where odours linger.

“Let it sit for at least 15 minutes or, ideally, a few hours or overnight. Once it has worked its magic, vacuum it up for a fresher scent.

Mr Brewster added: “For homes with pets or young kids, using baking soda once a month can help maintain a clean, fresh environment.”

Another natural item to consider using when it comes to cleaning carpets is essential oils and, specifically, tea tree or lavender.

Mr Brewster elaborated: “A few drops mixed with baking soda or vinegar can enhance your cleaning routine.

“To use essential oils, simply add them to your chosen cleaning solution before applying it to the carpet.

“You can use this combination whenever you deep clean your carpets or as needed when refreshing the scent.”

Any stubborn stains on the carpet can be combatted with the powerful cleaning combination of baking soda and vinegar.

Mr Brewster instructed: “To apply, create a paste by mixing the two ingredients and apply it directly to the stain.

“Let it fizz and work for a few minutes, then blot with a clean cloth. After it dries, vacuum up any residue.”
