The incredible £75m mega-project completely revamping gorgeous beaches

Dubai is home to numerous staggering mega-projects, and now the city is adding even more to its list with the £75 million redevelopment of two beaches.

Al Mamzar Beach and Jumeirah 1 Beach will both get a makeover as the Higher Committee for Urban Planning and Wellbeing announced a new proposal as part of Dubai’s 2040 urban master plan and the Master Plan for Public Beaches.

They include new sustainable infrastructure for the coastal and beach facilities and are expected to be completed within the next 18 months.

The aim is to turn both beaches into tourist hotspots fully equipped with new recreational facilities, water sports, showers, toilets, and changing rooms.

There will be a three-mile-long pedestrian path connecting the two beaches, seven miles of cycle paths and running tracks, and a floating bridge connecting both sides of Al Mamzar Beach.

The beaches will also be revamped to attract families as 10 play areas are due to be installed as well as numerous barbecue zones.

To accomodate what the city hopes will be an influx of visitors, the mega-projects will provide 1,400 parking spaces and charging stations for electric vehicles.

The Dubai 2040 social media accounts shared a teaser of what the beaches will hopefully look like within the next 18 months, calling them “among the best beaches in the world”.

The city is also planning to open its first 24/7 beach where visitors will be invited to night swim.

At the Al Mamzar beach, 2.7 miles of it will be redeveloped, whereas just under one mile of the Jumeirah site will see changes. Both will remain partially open during the renovations.

As they are both man-made, more than 500,000 cubic metres of beach sand will be needed to carry out the mega-projects, according to studies done on the protection of the UAE’s beaches.

In its effort to modernise its city and undertake more groundbreaking projects, Dubai has managed to amass over 425 Guinness World Records – more than any other city in the Middle East.
