The Handmaid’s Tale takes the brutal, harrowing dystopia from viewers’s doorsteps and places them in TV screens for an hour a week.
And although it looked like June (played by Elisabeth Moss) was free of her shackles in the finale of season two when she escaped from Gilead, she went on to do the unthinkable: she returned.
Despite getting her daughter, Holly, to safety, her first-born, Hannah, was still trapped in the horrific locale.
Season three is already three episodes in and it’s certain June will find herself in plenty of horrific situations.
Bruce Miller, showrunner for the Hulu epic, recently spoke to Variety about what is to come for June teasing her outlook is quite good.
During the interview he explained: “She’s winning more because she’s figured out the game.
“She’s a very patient character and – especially the way Lizzie plays her – she’s incredibly observant and she’s a great listener.
“And over time she’s accrued enough information; she has more tools in her toolbox and feels better suited to the game.”
He went on to talk about the changes that June will face in the upcoming episodes, and how different she will feel to viewers of her powerful journey.
Bruce explained: “I feel like she’s an extraordinarily different person this season, and she’s been changing every year quite a bit and a lot of that is just the fact that she’s had some failures and successes that she can draw on.
The producer also listed the achievements June has madein the past few years which prove she is a strong character willing to do whatever is necessary.
He said: “She tried to put herself in Fred’s good graces over a two-year period and she worked on that for a long time.
“The other successes: How many people told her she was never going to see her daughter again? She saw her daughter again.
“How many people told her she’d never get her other daughter out? She got her other daughter out.
“She’s had victories that were really hard won and took a long time, and she knows investing in this is going to pay off.”
It comes as the trailer for episode four teased what is to come for June now she has been reassigned.
In the new episode’s clip, the wives can be seen entering a meeting with their new babies, and enact a strange, Gilead-style version of a Christening.
Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) is obviously devastated after losing her daughter to June’s escape – but will she be seeking further revenge?
Fans will just have to wait and see if Serena will try to take down June or continue to help her.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 continues on Wednesdays on Hulu on and begins on Channel 4 on June 9 at 9pm
