The Family premiered on Netflix on Friday, August 9 with five episodes on intriguing documentary-making. The series combines interviews with experts and former member of religious group The Fellowship along with dramatisations of different talking points with actors. Here’s a full breakdown of the cast of actors who star in The Family and why Netflix subscribers have seen them before.

Who stars in the cast of The Family?

The acting cast of The Family includes a number of big-name Hollywood actors.

The Family’s synopsis, according to Netflix, reads: “Supporters and sceptics discuss C Street – a secrecy-shrouded residence for Washington politicians – and its sway in high-profile sex scandals.”

Each of the actors in The Family plays a dramatisation of a real person.

Doug Coe – James Cromwell

Douglas Coe was the former associate director of The Fellowship.

He died aged 88 on February 17, 2017, and is portrayed by James Cromwell throughout Netflix series, The Family.

The Family may be Oscar-nominee Cromwell’s latest on-screen role but it’s certainly not his biggest.

Cromwell is best known for playing Warden Hal Moores in Tom Hanks classic, The Green Mile.

His CV also boasts roles in American Horror Story, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and the Golden Globe-nominated series The Young Pope.

Jeff Sharlet – David Rysdahl

Jeff Sharlet is a journalist and novelist who gained access to The Fellowship.

Sharlet wrote the novel The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power on which the Netflix series is based.

The real Sharlet also appears in The Family to provide answers and insight but is also played in the dramatisations by David Rysdahl.

Rysdahl landed the role having starred in CBS comedy Bull, 2015 flick That’s Not Us and a number of short films.

Luke – Zachary Booth

Luke was a young member of The Fellowship who helped integrate Sharlet into their way of life.

He’s played by Zachary Booth, an actor with no shortage of experience in US TV and cinema.

Booth stars in The Family having impressed in FX drama Damages, horror series South of Hell and CBS’ The Good Fight.

Michael Park

Stranger Things and Mindhunter star Michael Park has a brief role in The Family.

His character is an unnamed older member of The Fellowship who speaks with Sharlet and the rest of the younger members about the bible.

Park’s no stranger to a Netflix Original series having starred in House of Cards and You as well as Mindhunter and Stranger Things.

Ben Rosenfield

Another unnamed member of The Fellowship in The Family is played by Ben Rosenfield.

He’s a younger member who lives closely to Sharlet and tries to guide him onto his path.

Rosenfield previously appeared in Boardwalk Empire, A Most Violent Year and Showtime’s revamp of Twin Peaks.

The Family is available to stream on Netflix now.
