The Big Bang Theory season 12 finale aired on CBS last night (Thursday, May 16). The Big Bang Theory finished with Sheldon (played by Sheldon Cooper) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) jointly receiving the Nobel Prize. E4 will air The Big Bang Theory season 12 finale on Thursday, May 23 at 8pm in the UK.
How did The Big Bang Theory season 12 finale finish?
The Big Bang Theory finale ended with Sheldon’s Nobel Prize acceptance speech.
This is the end of the season-long plot thread that saw Amy and Sheldon celebrating their wedding by working on a paper about asymmetric string theory together.
After a drama-filled episode, Sheldon stopped reading his prepared speech and decided to pay tribute to his friends, who he got to stand up.
He paid tribute to them as: “The greatest group of friends anyone ever had.”
WHY IS THE BIG BANG THEORY ENDING?
He also said how much he had learned from Amy, who had “encouraged, sustained, inspired, and tolerated” him.
This came after Sheldon’s anxiety over his Nobel nearly jeopardised his friendships.
In The Big Bang Theory finale, Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) begin by hiding the fact they are expecting a baby.
When Penny has to repeatedly go to the airplane toilet due to her morning sickness, Sheldon is worried she is ill and will spread her disease to him and his fellow Nobel laureates.

When they reveal the news to him, he reacts in his typically tactless way, calling out that Penny had said she never wanted a child.
After Amy confronts him about his behaviour, however, he sees the error of his ways.
The Big Bang Theory finale also saw Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) leaving their children behind for the first time to travel with the gang to Stockholm.
They nearly have to head back to Los Angeles after a family emergency but manage to sort things out before the end of the finale.
WHO IS IN THE CAST OF THE BIG BANG THEORY SEASON 12?
As for Raj, he gets a dream plus-one to accompany him to the Nobel ceremony – though as she makes very clear, it is not a date.
While Howard, Sheldon and Leonard are all sat on the plane next to their partners, Raj is sat alone.
As Big Bang Theory executive producer Steve Molaro told Entertainment Weekly: “This seems like an opportunity for him to be sitting next to somebody fun.”
That ‘somebody fun’ was Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who agrees to accompany him to the Stockholm ceremony.
