The record breaking sitcom The Big Bang Theory came to an end on CBS last year, leaving fans sad they never found out Penny Hofstadter’s (played by Kaley Cuoco) real surname before she married Leonard. Now it seems the answer was staring fans in the face this whole time.
The series wrapped up almost every major storyline, from Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy Farah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) winning a Nobel prize to the apartment elevator being fixed.
However, one major question of the series remained unanswered.
What’s Penny’s real surname?
Now, a new fan theory appears to have solved the long-lasting mystery.

When Penny’s father is finally introduced later in the series, he goes by the name Wyatt (Keith Carradine), which many fans thought was a plot hole.
However, others think that Bob is, in fact, Penny’s dad’s first name, while Wyatt is his surname.
One fan said on Twitter: “My theory – Penny’s last name: Wyatt. In her childhood story, (her) dad’s name was Bob… Dad meets Leonard, he calls him Wyatt.”
Meanwhile, Penny actress Kaley Cuoco has taken fans back to her time in the series in an emotional Instagram post.
“Ok I had to play along!” she wrote.
“Looks like everyone loved my BBT posts, including lots of pics with @sanctionedjohnnygalecki ugh don’t tell him.
”Another favourite taking home miss Blueberry and wearing one of the coolest dresses to last years golden globes…
“I’ve had my share of trying years but this was not one of them. Super grateful for everything this last year. Career, family, best friends, so many 4-legged creatures and the best husband on earth!”
The Big Bang Theory is available on Netflix.
