WITH the warm weather finally here, if you want to protect your lawn from the heat, fear not, you’ve come to the right place.

And if your purse is feeling tight and you haven’t got much cash to splash, fear not, as this trick is super affordable.

In fact, it’ll cost you just £3.50 thanks to a handy buy from Tesco.

As we head into May, having a healthy lawn is the best defence against pests or weeds, but it’s important to keep it well fertilised.

According to experts, summer is the most stressful time for lawns, with high temperatures and dry soil quickly causing stress.

As a result, it is important to strengthen your grass to help it withstand the heat and so if you want to wave goodbye to patchy, damaged and thinner grass, you’ll need to take notes.

Kris Lord, an expert from The Lawn Man, has shared his top tip to boost a lawn and give it the nutrients it needs.

According to Kris, seaweed feed is the key to ensuring your grass grows, as he explained: “Seaweed has been used for generations on fine lawns and in gardens. But why?

“It turns out that it is rather amazing stuff. It contains a huge number of vitamins, minerals, plant sugars and growth hormones.

“Over ten times the mineral levels of land-based plants. Not only are these much needed by grass, but they also feed the bacteria in the soil.”

Seaweed plant feed, which you can buy from Tesco for less than the price of an average Starbucks order, is rich in micronutrients such as magnesium, zinc and iron.

These micronutrients can improve water retention of lawns by encouraging root development, which will make them more stress tolerant.

It also helps lawns absorb nutrients more effectively from other fertilisers and increase chlorophyll protection to help the grass produce energy to grow more.

Gardening tips and hacks

Using seaweed feed on your lawn will result in thicker, greener and overall healthier grass that is properly protected, particularly when the current spring heat.

But that’s not all, as seaweed feed is also organic and contains no harmful chemicals.

Always check the label of products you use in your garden, but seaweed feed is usually an eco-friendly buy which is safe for pets, children or any wildlife.

It is considered as more of a tonic, adding valuable vitamins and minerals

Kris Lord

Having said that, it should be noted that seaweed feed is not a replacement for standard fertilisers and is rather a supplement, as grass also needs the main nutrients every plant needs (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) to stay healthy.

Kris said: “Seaweed is not a true fertiliser. The nutrient content isn’t guaranteed or standardised.

Top 5 Spring Gardening Jobs

Nick Grey, Gtech Inventor and CEO shared the tasks to crack on with as Spring arrives.

1. Clean your garden

Make sure to clear away all leaves, soil and plant debris from your patios and flower beds; this creates a healthier environment for new growth, especially as we get into the summer months. Gtech’s Garden Safety Kit includes durable gardening gloves and safety glasses; perfect for comfortability whilst tackling those outdoor tasks.

2. Weeding

Early Spring is the best time to tackle weeds; if you can introduce some regular weeding into your routine, you can guarantee a tidy garden all year round.

3. Hedge maintenance

Spring is the ideal time to tidy up overgrown hedges and shrubs, as regular trimming ensures healthy growth and reduces pest issues. Using a tool like the Gtech Lightweight Hedge Trimmer can help to keep your greenery looking sharp and neat.

4. Composting

Starting a compost heap this spring is a pro-active, cost-effective way to harness nutritious soil for your plants and recycle organic waste that will benefit the overall health of your greenery and foliage.

5. Look after your lawn

Lawn care is hugely important in assuring your garden stays looking beautiful. Make sure to rake away any excess leaves and trim your grass routinely.

“It is considered as more of a tonic, adding valuable vitamins and minerals. I use it in conjunction with regular fertiliser applications.”

If you want to try using seaweed feed in your garden, apply it to your lawn in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the peak sun.

Also note that intense heat can reduce its effectiveness and may even scorch the grass.
