A Tesco customer says they were horrified to open a pack of Ibuprofen they had bought to find the tablets had been ‘tampered with’.
The shopper said in a message to Tesco on X: “Putting away our groceries that just arrived, and my ‘brand new’ box of Ibuprofen had these inside?! I’m disturbed that medicines can be tempered with in this way – and delivered to customers.”
She shared an image of a tablet box and two eight-tablet strips of Ibuprofen tablets, one with four tablets missing and the other with two tablets missing.
The image also contained two six-tablet strips of Paracetamol, one of which was unused while the other had five tablets missing.
The unhappy customer persisted with demanding a response from Tesco, asking later: “Anyone going to get back to me about this? Aren’t you concerned your medical products are being tampered with in stores?! I certainly am!”
Tesco replied: “This is highly unusual and I understand your concern.” They also asked the customer to send over their details in a direct message, which the customer said they would.
A spokesman for Tesco said: “We were sorry to hear about this and isssued a refund to the customer. We have also asked the store to look into what happened.”
The supermarket chain has also been under fire recently after bringing in new parking restrictions.
The new rules mean you that at some locations, between midnight and 6am, you can only park for 30 minutes.
Shoppers will still get the standard three hours parking during daytime hours from 6am to 8pm.
One frustrated customer said of the change: “I know to a lot of people this probably seems petty and not a big deal, but to anyone who either has kids or works hours and has to shop in the evening, or for anyone neurodivergent it’s absolutely not okay.”
Another shopper said it would be a huge inconvenience for them, saying: “I also can only do the shopping on an evening. Similarly, it’s two hours to myself once a week. This is a really inconsiderate thing to do.”
Another person irritated at the rules said they would be changing where they shop as a result. They said: “We used to spend £110 a week at Tesco for husband and I, costs £65 a week at Aldi.
“Fresher veg, fruit, salad and the British steaks are excellent. Vote with your feet people.”
Tesco said in response to the concerns: “It is important to us that all our customers can find a space when they visit our stores.”
