A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of kidnap after a taxi was allegedly taken for a joyride with a terrified passenger still on board.
Police have confirmed a 17-year-old has been taken into custody and is being questioned over the incident.
It follows an appeal which involved dashcam footage of the incident that showed a driver taking dangerous risks in Plymouth, Devon.
The youth has been held on suspicion of kidnap and of aggravated taking without consent, Plymouth Live reports.
The footage showed a driver on the wrong side of the road heading towards oncoming traffic and taking corners too fast.
Throughout the incident the passenger could be heard screaming for their life in the back.
The owner of the taxi, Corneliu, said that the black cab was flagged down by two people on Notte Street, but one passenger went to get cash and the other got into the back of the cab.
The 38-year-old said he became aware of around “10 to 20 kids” on the pavement – some of which can be clearly seen in the dashcam footage – who were trying to get into the already taken taxi.
The incident was also filmed and photographed by a number of people who watched and laughed as the taxi was taken.
The owner was left with an estimated repair bill of around £5,000 with his cab suffering damage.
