Former Team GB boxer Nicola Adams is set to undergo a dramatic career switch and endeavour into the world of Hollywood as she prepares to feature in her first film. The Olympic icon will reportedly star in an upcoming action thriller titled ‘The Gun on Second Street’ alongside Poppy Delevingne, Rumer Willis and Tom Arnold.
Adams has made no secret of her dream to grace the silver screen and has been working to turn it into a reality after retiring from boxing in 2019.
Since hanging up the gloves five years ago, the 41-year-old has followed in the footsteps of the likes of John Boyega and Letitia Wright by attending the Identity School of Acting (IDSA) in London.
And, according to Deadline, she is now primed for her debut in The Gun on Second Street, which is currently in the pre-production stage.
The film is said to follow a Pittsburgh police officer who shoots and kills his partner by accident during a domestic violence call.
“I’m thrilled to take on this new challenge and bring my fighting spirit to the big screen,” Adams explained in a statement.
“Boxing taught me discipline, focus, and determination—skills I’m excited to apply to my acting career.”
The film’s producers said: “Nicola’s incredible achievements in sport and her magnetic personality make her a natural fit for this role.”
Adams made history during his boxing career by becoming the first-ever female fighter to win back-to-back gold medals at the Olympic Games.
The Leeds-born flyweight basked in glory at London 2012 before repeating her success in Rio four years later.
She also won gold at the EU Championships, European Championships, Commonwealth Games, the European Games and the World Championships.
Six months after her victory at Rio 2016, Adams turned professional by signing with legendary promoter Frank Warren.
Adams won her first five professional fights, the last in which she became the WBO interim flyweight champion. A year later, she upgraded to world champion.
In her first defence against Maria Salinas, she suffered a torn pupil in the opening round and, despite battling to draw the bout, was forced to retire a month later due to the risk of further damage causing permanent vision loss.
“I’d love to act in movies, that’s the main goal. I’d love to work with The Rock — he’s awesome,” Adams told Metro in 2021.
Now, that goal has been fulfilled.
