Last year, some Taco Bell locations quietly took breakfast off their menus, and fans took to social media to voice their displeasure.
“Taco Bell getting rid of the breakfast menu was the real crime,” said one fan on X.
“Taco Bell taking breakfast off the menu is the WORST move they’ve ever made,” said another.
In a statement to The U.S. Sun, Taco bell said, “Taco Bell’s breakfast menu is currently available at participating restaurants only, including all company-owned restaurants.”
The move was done in order to give franchised restaurants, which make up more than 94% of Taco bell’s locations, the ability for owners to cater to their individual communities.
Despite backlash from fans, the move was praised by franchise owners, who felt that it gave them more freedom over their restaurant operations.
“We are known for our partnership with franchisees, and this is another example of how the brand is listening to its people, taking their feedback into account, and making changes to support the overall growth of the brand,” Taco Bell said in a statement.
“Franchisees have expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying that they feel like their needs are being heard to flex their menu to better support what their community craves, while others shared that they look forward to focusing on other dayparts like lunchtime and the new Cantina Chicken Menu.
“This isn’t the first time we’ve offered options to franchisees to streamline menus.”
An employee in Indiana spoke to The U.S. Sun and revealed that every Taco Bell in their town no longer serves breakfast.
A LITTLE HISTORY
Taco Bell first launched its breakfast menu in 2014, introducing fan favorite items like the Breakfast Crunchwrap, Toasted Breakfast Burrito, and Breakfast Quesadilla.
The Waffle Taco was another beloved favorite, but it was discontinued after about a year.
In October 2024, Taco Bell gave franchisees the ability to opt out of serving the breakfast menu.
The change was made with the intention of prioritizing “key drivers of growth.”
Specifically, the company wanted to give its franchisees flexibility by allowing them to cater their communities.
Some franchise owners chose to forego the breakfast menu in favor of the lunch menu and Cantina Chicken menu.
As a result, some franchise stores removed their breakfast menus, while all company-owned stores retained them.
Taco Bell stated that customers can still go to its website’s stores locator to see if their local restaurant still serves breakfast.
