Taco Bell brings back $5 ‘street’ menu item for a limited time – and there’s a new ‘toasted’ twist fans say is ‘magic’

Foodies will have to hurry as the offer is only for a limited time.

Taco Bell says the item is street-inspired and puts a “craveable, saucy twist” on the fan-favorite menu item.

The brand launched Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas – the next evolution of Taco Bell’s ode to street-style flavors and ingredients.

It comes with an all-new toasted cheddar shell that packs more crunch, cheese, and sauce – and is filled with onions and cilantro.

And it will all be wrapped in Taco Bell’s toasted cheddar shell filled with a brand-new Chile and Lime crema sauce.

Starting March 27, fans nationwide can enjoy a pair of two Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas with their choice of slow-roasted Cantina chicken or grilled, marinated steak for $5.49.

The new chalupa is being welcomed with a host of deals for foodies to take advantage of.

Fans can now grab the Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas Discovery Luxe Box for $9.

This includes fan favorite menu items and the addition of a new limited-time item, from the Toasted Cheddar Cheese Chalupas to Cinnamon Twists or a drink.

But the deal is for a limited time, while supplies last.

Luis Restrepo, Taco Bell’s Vice President, Product Innovation, said: “The street taco is a cultural staple built on bold flavor and quality ingredients, and the Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas honors that tradition while bringing in a unique Taco Bell touch that packs even more flavor into every bite.

“Fans immediately fell in love with the crispy, cheesy bite of the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa in 2019, and now we’re elevating that street-inspired flavor experience, and that’s exactly the kind of comeback our fans have been waiting for.”

Taco Bell members can claim a Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas order for only $1 during the April 15 Tuesday Drop on the app.

Fans on Reddit have already shown their anticipation for the new chalupa.

The r/Taco Bell thread was lit up with excitement when it was being tested in Houston, Texas, seven months ago.

At the time, the caption of the post said: “It’s the same sauce and filling as before but with shredded cheese on top.

“The best part is definitely the crispiness of the shell. if it’s thick enough and brown enough, it’s crispier than fried chicken.

“Fans of the toasted cheddar chalupa from a while back will also enjoy these.

One person in the comments said: “Honestly? I’d be down. I loved the street chalupas but found them a little too ‘bready’ at times.

“Seems like a good alternative with a nice crunch.”

Someone else echoed this hungry sentiment: “I love them. Please make them permanent.”
