SUV slams into Philadelphia 7-Eleven, hits pedestrian

An SUV driver suffering a medical emergency passed out and slammed into a Philadelphia 7-Eleven store, hitting a man in the parking lot and scattering everyone inside.

Authorities said the man in the parking lot suffered relatively minor injuries and that no one inside the store was hit.

Surveillance video outside and inside the store told the tale, with dramatic footage capturing the Jeep Grand Cherokee as it careened across the parking lot and clipped a tractor-trailer delivery truck. The SUV then hit the 34-year-old man standing outside before becoming airborne and barreling into the building.

Internal security video recorded people leaping out of the way as the vehicle burst inside.

“As long as everyone’s OK, everyone’s safe, all this will get figured out,” Yousaf, a store employee, told WCAU. “That’s all that matters, everyone is safe and alive. That’s the biggest thing to take away from here.”

Though police said the driver had suffered a medical issue, he emerged from the wreckage unscathed and refused treatment. The man he hit was hospitalized in stable condition with some broken bones, police told WPVI.

Police were continuing to investigate Thursday.
