The suspect in a deadly spree of hit-and-run incidents that left one victim dead and three injured, was killed by police Sunday night in Tampa, Fla.
According to Tampa police, a dispute occurred Sunday night at a Dollar General store around 8:30 p.m. which escalated when Jeremiah Bailey, 48, tried to use his car to block 47-year-old Eric Archield’s car from leaving.
Bailey then allegedly followed Archield and ran him over after he left his car, causing minor injuries.
While driving away from the scene, Bailey veered suddenly and hit Jesse Rickett, 43. Rickett was taken to a hospital in critical condition with head injuries.
Minutes later, Tampa police received another call about a struck pedestrian. That individual, a man who has not been identified, died from his injuries.
A police officer approached Bailey before he sped off once again, hitting 41-year-old Timothy Harden in the process around 10:15 p.m.
After a pursuit, officers managed to stop Bailey’s car but shot him when he appeared to be reaching for something as they approached the car. No weapon was found in his car and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three officers were also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
“Tonight was a tragic night involving an extremely dangerous suspect,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said at a news conference.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the man who was killed,” he added.
