Suspect in Harrisburg, Pa. triple shooting arrested at Philly hotel

The suspect in a triple shooting that injured three people, including a 4-year-old child, last year was arrested Wednesday in a hotel in South Philadelphia, authorities said.

Shawn Jason, 47, was wanted by police in Harrisburg, Pa. for three counts of criminal attempt homicide. Jason allegedly shot the three victims in early September following a “verbal dispute with his neighbors.

All three were taken to the hospital but were expected to survive, police said at the time.

Jason was also involved in an armed robbery in a CVS store in Abington Township, just outside Philadelphia, in February, according to Abington Police Lt. Steven Fink.

Authorities say Jason entered the employee area of the pharmacy, “brandished a handgun and demanded that the pharmacist open the safe and hand over all of the narcotics.” Police charged him with robbery and related weapons offenses on Tuesday, and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force took him into custody Wednesday morning.

The arrest came after a month of investigation, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark, said in a news release.

According to Clark, marshals received information that the suspect, who was believed to be in the Philadelphia area, had recently checked into a hotel room in the 4600 block of Island Avenue in South Philly.

Authorities surrounded the hotel and knocked on his door. Jason was arrested without incident and taken to the Abington Police Department, where he is being held on both the Abington and the Harrisburg arrest warrants.

“A long and extensive history of violent criminal activity by Mr. Jason has once again culminated in his arrest, but sadly not before counting a 4-year-old child he shot as among his most recent victims,” Eric Gartner, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, said in a statement.
