Four men and a woman were shot and another man was slashed overnight in five separate incidents in Brooklyn and Manhattan, police said Thursday.
All of the victims were hospitalized and are in stable condition and expected to survive.
The spate of violence started at 9:43 p.m. Wednesday, when a 33-year-old was shot in the chest at Kingston Ave. and St. John’s Place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Medics took the victim to Kings County Hospital. The gunman ran off.
An hour later, at 10:45 p.m., a 21-year-old was struck in the leg in a confrontation on Division Ave. near S. 11th St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Medics rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital. That gunman also fled the scene.
A little more than two hours later, a 27-year-old woman was struck in the buttocks by gunfire at 1:06 a.m. in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Police said the shooter got away from the incident at Bushwick Ave. and Pilling St. in a four-door sedan.
Medics took the woman to Kings County Hospital. Police said it’s not clear if the victim was the intended target.
In Manhattan, a man was slashed in the face and robbed of $60 by three men at W. 96th St. and Amsterdam Ave. on the Upper West Side at 1:24 a.m.
Two men with no shirts on got away. The third suspect, Akim Harris, 21, was arrested and charged with robbery and assault.
The last incident of the night happened at 4:48 a.m. when a 47-year-old was shot in the chest and a 38-year-old was shot in the arm by a gunman on Farragut Road near E. 49th St. in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.
Medics took the victims to Kings County Hospital.
Despite the overnight violence, the overall crime rate in the city is down 2% through June this year. That includes a 17% drop in murders from 208 in the same time period in 2023 to 171 this year. The number of shooting incidents fell by 8% in the first six months of the year, from 482 to 441.
