Subway surfing teen survives fall in the Bronx

A teenager who was subway-surfing Tuesday evening fell from the train and onto the tracks in the Bronx, miraculously surviving the treacherous trick, police said.

The 15-year-old male tumbled from the northbound 5 train onto the tracks between Gun Hill Road and Pelham Parkway at 5:50 p.m., suffering a head injury, cops said.

“He’s lucky to be alive,” a police source told the Daily News. “They had to go into the tunnel to find him.”

The teen was rushed to Jacobi Hospital and was “conscious and alert,” the source added.

Subway surfing has been a vexing issue for the NYPD.

A drone initiative started in 2023 aimed to crack down on the dangerous antic that claimed the lives of six people last year.  The NYPD has two drones that are put to work during the after-school hours from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. flying above the J, M, Z and 7 subway lines to alert officers on the ground if a subway surfer is spotted.
