Up to 75 percent (7,277) of readers would trust Mr Johnson with Brexit in a poll of 9,832 participants, which took place as the blond politician took part in his first hustings event in Birmingham with competitor Mr Hunt. Up to 15 percent (1,477) of readers would put their trust in Mr Hunt, the current Foreign Secretary, who has now gone head-to-head with Mr Johnson in the Tory leadership contest for Theresa May’s job as Prime Minister. Up to 1,078 readers said they did not know who to trust.

The poll asked readers the question this afternoon.

Comments from Express Online readers echoed the results of the exclusive poll.

One commenter said: “I would not trust hunt to make a sandwich, let alone Brexit.”

Another said: “Jeremy Hunt is a pleasant man, however, he’s a Remainer and voted that way in the referendum. Therefore, whilst Boris is a character, that should never stop him being electable, it actually makes him human, if not endearing.

“He is a staunch Brexiteer and he’s the only one that can deliver Brexit.”

Another, referring to news the metropolitan Police visited his home yesterday, said: “No trust in Jeremy Hunt, not for a long time. He was our MP. Very low of him to lay into Boris after a home domestic. Did that really warrant a Police visit? I doubt it.

“It has to be Boris now for PM. We don’t want a PM without a firm handshake or one that walks over others on the way to the top.”

Today, Mr Johnson was interrogated on his policies and thoughts on Brexit in the Midlands.

This came as he dodged questions on why officers attended his London home after a neighbour called them having heard shouting.

Mr Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds is said to have yelled at him “get off me, get out” at the home they share in the Capital.

Iain Dale, the interviewer, asked Mr Johnson: “Why was the police called to your house last night?”

To applause from the audience, the leadership candidate said: “I don’t think they want to hear about that kind of thing.

The police since said no further action was required.

After an hour of grilling questions, he got cheers from the crowd, much to his delight.
