Starbucks apologizes after closing store despite customer placing an order – and they’re still waiting on refund

A STARBUCKS customer has been left fuming after an ordering mishap earlier this month.

Despite the transaction going through, they claimed that their desired food and drink items were unavailable.

That’s because the customer, Kyle, unknowingly placed an order from a Starbucks location that was closed at the time, per his post on X.

Kyle claimed that not only was he left without what he wanted, but the money he paid still went through in the Starbucks mobile app.

“@Starbucks someone needs to help me refund my mobile order,” Kyle demanded.

“I put the order in then got to the store and it was closed.”

“And you wonder why the stock is doing so bad, customer service like that is the reason,” he added.

Starbucks quickly responded to his complaint and apologized, requesting more information to resolve it.

“Hello Kyle, I’m sorry this has been your experience,” a Starbucks Care representative replied.

“I understand your concerns and would like to look into this.”

“Can you please send us a DM with a screenshot of your purchase receipt, including the store address?” they asked.

It’s unclear if Kyle contacted the coffeehouse chain further or if the issue has since been resolved.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Starbucks for more information.

Big changes are being made at the company this year with CEO Brian Niccol at the helm.

MENU MINIMIZED

Niccol took over in September and began the “Back to Starbucks” initiative, which involved streamlining its operations and upping quality.

That includes about a 30% cut to the menu, including 13 drink options.

The 13 Axed Starbucks Beverages

  1. Iced Matcha Lemonade
  2. Espresso Frappuccino
  3. Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino
  4. White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino
  5. Java Chip Frappuccino
  6. Chai Crème Frappuccino
  7. Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino
  8. Double Chocolaty Chip Crème Frappuccino
  9. Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino
  10. White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino
  11. White Hot Chocolate
  12. Royal English Breakfast Latte
  13. Honey Almondmilk Flat Whit

“We’re simplifying our menu to focus on fewer, more popular items, executed with excellence,” an explanation for the change reads on Starbucks’ website.

“This will make way for innovation, help reduce wait times, improve quality and consistency, and align with our core identity as a coffee company.”

“Starbucks has always been about coffee craft, community, and connection,” it continued.

“We’re focusing on premium beverages rooted in customer trends and preferences.”

MAKING MOVES

As part of efforts to simplify operations and boost sales performance, Starbucks also recently laid off around 1,100 support staff positions and closed a few hundred unfilled roles.

Other moves to make Starbucks feel as community oriented as possible include handwritten messages on to-go cups.

The chain’s “for here” rule was also brought back, meaning that beverages enjoyed in-house would be served in a coffee mug, glass, or even a personal cup a customer brought from home.

These policies were common before Starbucks expanded and began focusing heavily on mobile orders and automation.

Customers have also now seen the return of the self-serve condiment bar with creamer, milk, and a variety of sweeteners.

There’s also a new code of conduct requiring a purchase to use the restrooms and hang out at Starbucks cafes.
