'Slugs have disappeared' from the home with one simple light hack

Slugs can squeeze through the tiniest of cracks meaning they could take comfort in your home during the night.

They may be using your abode, especially if you have a basement, for shelter and be on the hunt for food.

Slugs could be attracted to pet food in the home, trash, cardboard, paper, and plants.

One horrified Reddit contributor revealed their ordeal when coming home from an evening out.

“One terrible night we returned late to see a whole line of them going up the cooker, like some kind of slow-motion Hitchcock film,” the Reddit contributor penned.

In addition to blocking any entry ways, such as holes in the walls, there’s one simple trick that seems to be working for people who face a similar predicament.

“We used to come downstairs to 20 to 30 slugs every morning. Accidentally left a light on one night and came down to none. Lights been on every night since and the slugs have disappeared,” another commentator revealed.

One Reddit user was keen to try the light hack and, much to their surprise, it worked. The user stated there was “no slug trail” in the morning after leaving the light on.

In agreement, another commentator said: “The most success I had was simply leaving the light on at night in the kitchen.

“I have an energy saving bulb and an economy-seven meter so it costs very little. For some reason they only come out when it’s dark.”

With more people agreeing that leaving the lights on works to prevent slugs from leaving a slime trail around your home, what if you don’t want to leave the light on all night?

Oxford City Council recommended sealing access points, to remove food sources and to address any condensation or damp issues you may have at home.

“Copper tape or strips can also deter them, as they receive an electric shock upon contact,” Oxford City Council noted.
