Skincare pro shares 5 tips for ‘healthy and radiant’ winter skin which are completely free

Many people may choose to invest lots of money in lotions and treatments to achieve glowing skin.

Whilst these can be beneficial, there are a number of ways which are completely “free”, according to an expert.

Dr Keyana Emamian, general practitioner and an aesthetic, skin and hair specialist at Este Medical Group, explained: “We all want to look and feel our best whenever possible, and there are so many amazing skincare products and treatments out there to help us achieve our goals.

“However, spending money isn’t the only way to help our skin look healthy and radiant.

“Simple changes to our daily routines can make a huge difference and achieve the look and feel of a trip to an expensive spa without costing a penny.”

1. Swap hot water for cold water

Everyone loves the feeling of hot water on their faces, especially on a winter morning, but it could have a negative impact on the skin.

Instead, swap to cold water which can help to refresh the skin as well as reduce puffiness and inflammation.

2. Change your pillowcase

The skin pro noted: “It’s no secret our beds are home to lots of our dead skin, bacteria and even tiny little mites that can flare up our skin as we sleep.

“Changing your pillowcase at least once a week and washing them in a hot setting to kill microbes will help keep your complexion fresh.”

3. Give your face a massage

The feeling of a facial can be relaxing and refreshing, but you can do one at home yourself for free.

Use your fingers to give yourself a gentle massage under the eye area in a clockwise direction a few times.

According to the pro, this will help to boost circulation and reduce inflammation.

4. Drink water

Dr Keyana said: “What we put in our bodies has a real impact on our skin, so I ensure I drink at least two litres of water per day, as well as following a healthy diet.

“Dehydration can lead to dull and itchy skin, bags under your eyes and more noticeable fine lines.”

5. Tone down makeup

Too much makeup can clog your pores, leaving them unable to breathe.

Also, according to the expert, many products contain chemicals which can contribute to problems such as acne, dryness and dehydration.

The pro continued: “Perhaps try to tone down your makeup routine, switch to more natural products or even go bare-faced a few days a week.”
