Sir Alex Ferguson ‘conducts hatewatch in person’ as Man Utd icon spotted in PSG stands for Arsenal’s Champions League KO

SIR ALEX FERGUSON jetted to Paris to watch Arsenal’s Champions League dreams fade away.

The legendary Man Utd boss – who had an infamously bitter relationship with Arsene Wenger along the years – was spotted in the Parc des Princes stands for Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final second leg.

PSG cruised past Mikel Arteta’s side, winning 2-1 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate, with Fergie‘s presence much to the delight of fans watching on at home.

One posted: “Sir Alex Ferguson prefers to conduct his hate watches in person.”

Another added: “Hatewatch so legendary Sir Alex Ferguson had to fly to Paris himself.”

A third, meanwhile, said: “Sir Alex Ferguson was all of us. He went to Paris knowing [Arsenal] will fumble it again

Fergie, 83, was spotted smiling away in the stands, with many speculating he was revelling in the Gunners’ demise, particularly given the rivalry he and Wenger endured in the early 2000s.

Across 49 meetings with longstanding rival Wenger, Fergie came out on top 23 times and the two teams produced some of the most iconic moments in Premier League history.

One thing Wenger – who returned to the Emirates for the first leg – managed that his predecessors haven’t, however, is to guide Arsenal to another Champions League final.

The Gunners’ season truly fell apart when it mattered most, meaning Arteta will go trophyless for a fifth consecutive season.

Despite a brutal onslaught in the opening stages, Fabian Ruiz put PSG ahead in the 27th minute with a fine strike.

Achraf Hakimi doubled the home side’s lead midway through the second half, mere minutes after David Raya had saved an extremely controversial Vitinha penalty.

Bukayo Saka pulled one back in the 76th minute, and should have levelled things on the night just minutes later, but fired over.

Despite crashing out, Arteta maintained his team were the best team in the Champions League this season.

‘Upset’ Mikel Arteta claims there ‘hasn’t been a better team’ than Arsenal in the Champions League in blunt interview

He said: “We were very close, much closer than the result showed, but unfortunately we are out.

“I am very proud of the players, 100% I don’t think there’s been a better team [than Arsenal] in the competition from what I have seen, but we are out.

“This competition is about the boxes and in both boxes are the strikers and the goalkeepers and theirs was the best in both games.”

PSG will face Inter in the showpiece final on May 31 at Bayern Munich‘s Allianz Arena.
