Keeping shower screens sparkling clean can be a major hassle, as no matter how many times you wipe the grass it can be streaky, foggy and with watermarks all over it.
When water evaporates after a shower, the minerals are left behind, which causes watermarks, also known as limescale, to build up and cause cloudy, spotty marks.
These marks are difficult to wipe as limescale is a tough crystalline substance that cannot be cleaned with most standard cleaning agents.
Luckily, Kerry Hale, an expert from Mira Showers, has shared that cleaning shower glass screens is quick and easy as long as you use one natural product you likely already have in your kitchen cupboard.
Kerry said: “You can try several products and methods to remove watermarks from shower glass. Before reaching for harsh cleaning chemicals, use white vinegar.
“This tried-and-tested household product is the best way to clean a shower screen and is highly effective at removing limescale from various surfaces. Always use distilled white vinegar, as malt or cider vinegar won’t clean as thoroughly and may stain surfaces.”
It may seem too straightforward but white vinegar is the most effective way to remove limescale as it is entirely made up of alkaline minerals.
White vinegar contains acetic acid which will chemically react to the minerals and break down the deposits naturally without having to use a chemical cleaner.
What is fantastic about white vinegar is that it is also great at cleaning glass as it evaporates so quickly, so you will have a sparkling clean shower screen without any streaks.
How to use white vinegar to clean a shower screen
To begin, mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in an empty spray bottle.
Spray a generous amount of the homemade spray on your shower screen and make sure the whole glass is completely covered.
Leave the white vinegar solution to sit on the glass for around 15 minutes to give it time to break down the limescale minerals.
Once the time is up, use a cotton cloth to wipe the glass, and if the limescale is stubborn pour the mixture directly onto the cloth and scrub the marks off.
If you have one, use a squeegee to remove any excess water and then use a microfibre cloth to polish the glass.
Your shower screen should now be completely clear and clean without any streaks being left behind.
Cleaning a shower screen once a week is a simple way to prevent limescale build-up, but also make sure to open a window after showering as a well-ventilated bathroom helps the water evaporate quickly.
