SEE IT: Police release videos of Scottie Scheffler’s arrest outside PGA Championship

A pair of videos released Thursday capture portions of Scottie Scheffler’s arrest outside of the PGA Championship, for which the world’s No. 1 golfer faces charges including second-degree assault of a police officer.

One video, taken by a fixed camera in the distance, seems to show Scheffler’s car slowly turning toward the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., as an officer chases him down and hits the front of his vehicle.

The moments preceding that scene are obscured by buses, while the encounter itself takes place far away from the camera pole, limiting visibility.

Another video, captured by a police car’s dash-cam, shows two officers escorting Scheffler, whose hands are behind his back. That scene occurs at the 25:15 mark of the nearly 56-minute video.

An internal investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department determined Det. Bryan Gillis violated protocol by failing to turn on his body-worn camera. The officer received undisclosed discipline for the violation, LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said at a news conference Thursday.

There isn’t any known footage of Gillis’ initial encounter with Scheffler, according to Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg.

In last week’s incident report, police stated Gillis tried to stop Scheffler, who allegedly then accelerated his vehicle, dragging the officer to the ground. Gillis suffered knee and wrist injuries, according to the incident report.

Scheffler, who faces four charges, has described the incident as a “huge misunderstanding” and is scheduled to be arraigned on June 3.

“He didn’t do anything wrong,” Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, said Thursday. “We will go to trial or the case will be dismissed. We have no interest in settling the case.”
