Saoirse Ronan is officially married to her “Mary Queen of Scots” costar, Jack Lowden.
The pair tied the knot in a secret ceremony in Scotland according to the British outlet The Independent. The civil wedding reportedly took place at the Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office with just a “handful” of their closest friends and “all guests were sworn to secrecy.”
The publication also reported that the “lowkey” celebration happened last weekend.
While the pair typically stays tight-lipped about their relationship, rumors of their romance ignited in 2018 after their film “Mary Queen of Scots” was released. In the film Ronan played the titular Mary while Lowden played the monarch’s husband, Lord Darnley.
Speculation of the longtime couple’s engagement started swirling in October when the “Little Women” actress was spotted rocking a diamond ring at a Louis Vuitton fashion show in Paris.
And just last month, Lowden shared a rare photograph of the lovebirds cuddling at Glastonbury festival in England. Despite remaining mum about their relationship throughout the years, Lowden hasn’t shied away from publicly gushing over his partner’s acting skills.
“My first love is actors,” he told iNews in reference to the duo’s film “The Outrun” last year. “And when you’re given a Ferrari like her, it’s all about how you make everything good for the Ferrari to show off. Don’t make a Ferrari do what a Renault Clio does. It’s a dreadful analogy but they’re like gold dust, good actors. When there’s someone like that, you just have to facilitate them and you will get gold.”
The ”Benediction” actor also expressed his thoughts on the public’s fascination with the couple.
“Her and I don’t find that odd,” he admitted. “We’re hugely appreciative of the level of scrutiny we have. We’re treated well but we don’t seek it either. People have got it far worse. It’s also obviously of our own making. As long as we’ve got each other, we’re alright with any of that.”
