Ryder Cup captains make feelings known about LIV Golf stars competing in 2025

Luke Donald and Keegan Bradley insisted  LIV Golf players will be available to join Team Europe and Team USA at the 2025 Ryder Cup.

The eligibility concerning LIV Golf stars has overshadowed much debate when it comes to the Saudi-backed circuit’s emergence as a rival to the PGA Tour. The likes of former world No. 1 Jon Rahm – the 2024 LIV Golf individual champion – and Tyrrell Hatton have previously expressed concern about their respective moves to LIV Golf regarding their Ryder Cup eligibility.

The duo have also attempted to fulfil various obligations to remain eligible recently, and naturally the topic was raised at the Ryder Cup ‘Year to Go’ event in New York. Both Donald and Bradley opened the door for LIV Golf players to compete at Bethpage Black next year.

“I think the DP World’s policies have been very consistent – we’ve had a lot of clarity on that and it’s really the same as we had in Rome,” Donald told reporters in New York. “You have to be a member of the European tour or born in Europe and if you fulfil the rules and regulations that the DP World Tour has set then you’re eligible so there’s a bunch LIV guys that play in LIV that are eligible now.

“I can pick them at will.”

Donald also expressed encouragement in Sergio Garcia, who made the switch to LIV Golf in 2022 and serves as captain for Fireballs GC, returning to the fold at Bethpage. Apart from 2010 and 2023, Garcia has been a member of every European Ryder Cup team since 1999 and has a career record at the Ryder Cup of 25–13–7.

Meanwhile, Bradley suggested there is a possibility that both he and other vice captains can achieve eligibility to play themselves. However, the 38-year-old insisted he is “just focused on being a captain right now.”

Bradley also suggested that while Tiger Woods was consulted, the 15-time major champion is unlikely to feature in any capacity as he focuses on his own game heading into the 2025 season.
