Shocking video shared on social media shows a large fire and plumes of thick black smoke billowing from an oil refinery in Russia in the latest suspected drone attack by Ukraine.
Ukraine is believed to have targeted Russian oil refineries for a second day, in what President Vladimir Putin has called an attempt to disrupt Russia’s presidential election this week.
On Wednesday, just one day after causing serious damage to Lukoil’s NORSI refinery in Nizhny Novgorod, Ukrainian drones hit refineries in the Rostov and Ryazan regions, Russian officials claimed.
Ryazan is located 110 miles from Moscow.
“The special services are working at the site, using all the necessary force and means to localise the fire at one of the oil refining installations,” said Gleb Nikitin, the boss of Nizhny Novgorod, on the Telegram app.
