Russia loses nearly 800 troops and dozens of vehicles in one day in new Putin humiliation

Russian forces in Ukraine faced significant casualties and equipment losses in the past day, intensifying the ongoing conflict as both sides brace for anticipated offensives in the coming months.

According to Newsweek, Kyiv’s military reported that Russian forces lost 780 soldiers, along with 10 tanks and over 20 armored personnel vehicles (APVs) in recent clashes.

This escalation adds to the toll of Moscow’s armed forces, now totaling 440,750 troops lost since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, as per updated figures released by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Thursday.

Kyiv’s count also includes significant losses in equipment, with Russia reportedly losing a grand total of 6,924 tanks and 13,258 APVs.

Casualty counts and equipment losses in wartime are often murky, with Western experts suggesting that reported figures from both Kyiv and Moscow may surpass the actual numbers.

Amid the conflict, Ukraine has also faced significant losses, with Russia’s Defense Ministry reporting that Ukraine lost 15,614 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, as well as 8,546 field artillery guns and mortars since February 2022.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu recently stated that Ukraine sustained approximately 71,000 casualties since January 2024, aligning closely with Russian casualty figures provided by Ukraine’s military, which estimated Russian casualties at around 72,000 during the same period.

While caution is advised in interpreting these figures, they clearly show the substantial losses on both sides as the conflict escalates heading into the spring and summer months, with Kyiv warning of a potential new offensive by Moscow in late May or during the summer, amid reports of troop buildup for such an effort.
