‘Run don’t walk’ to Lidl cry gardening fans as they snap up £9.99 plant that looks ‘so pretty’ all summer

SHOPPERS are running to Lidl to snap up a “pretty” plant that will give gardens a major flower boost – and it’s only £9.99.

So if you’re looking to give your outdoor space a cheap spruce up in time for summer, you’ve come to the right place.

Argyranthemum frutescens, better known as Marguerite daisies, bloom from late spring to autumn.

They can grow up to a metre tall which is ideal if you’re looking for flowers with a bigger presence in your garden.

Gardening experts at the Royal Horticultural Society say the large daisies are best placed in full sun, thrive in south–facing or west–facing gardens and grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.

To get the most out of them, they recommend: “Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering and pinch growing tips to keep compact.

“Best used as a summer bedding plant. Mulching helps to conserve water. Water in prolonged dry spells.”

And bargain hunters have been left delighted after spotting them for sale in budget supermarket Lidl.

Posting on the Garden Makeover Ideas On A Budget Facebook group, which boasts 850,000 members, gardening fan Juliet said: “Lidl £9.99!

“It’s so pretty, I’d say run not walk as they won’t be there for long.”

Other shoppers have now been racing to their nearest store to bag one.

“Need a trip to Lidl”, one person said.

A second cried: “I saw this in Lidl’s today & wish I picked one up.”

A third wrote: “I brought 2 last year and they didn’t come back….. so I just got one this year…they are lovely.”

A fourth begged a pal: “Are you going to Lidl tomorrow?? If so yes please X2.”

Meanwhile, a fifth revealed: “My neighbour got me one from Lidl tonight as I loved her one last year, it came on really well and looked good all summer, I just planted mine in a big tub on the patio.”

Other gardening fans, however, have warned against the bargain plant after struggling to keep it alive.

One person sighed: “I got 2 about few weeks ago both pretty much dead. Enjoy it for a few weeks haha.”

“Bought one last year..it never came back this year ..won’t buy it again”, wrote somebody else.

Another disappointed person added: “Beautiful but they don’t last long.”

And a fourth claimed: “They last 5 minutes ain’t worth the pretty pound you spend on it. Unless you grow from seeds.”
