Kate, Duchess of Cambridge holds the position of Honorary Air Commandant of the RAF Air Cadets.
This chimes in with Kate’s well-known passion for young people and education, as the Air Cadets train 12-20 year olds in flying, outdoors and leadership skills.
It could be that Meghan has not expressed an interest in adding a military appointment to her royal roles, as her royal areas of expertise centre around social issues, environmentalism, and women’s leadership.
The Duchess of Sussex also does not currently hold British citizenship, which could prove an obstacle in gaining a British Armed Forces position if she does not change her citizenship status in the future.
In addition, the Duchess has only been a member of the Royal Family since May 2018, leaving little time to cram in more royal duties.
She received her first royal patronages in January this year, becoming patron of the National Theatre, The Mayhew, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and Smart Works.
Kate first became a patron of the Royal Foundation in October 2011, so the two Duchess’ took on the important roles within a similar timeframe after their royal weddings.
The Duchess of Cambridge received her Air Cadets appointment from Prince Philip in December 2015.

Meanwhile, Princess Anne’s impressive royal record includes 27 military appointments.
The Princess Royal rode on horseback, alongside Prince Charles, Prince Andrew and Prince William this year, in her position as Colonel-in-Chief of the Blues and Royals.
Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana also held military honours, including for the Princess of Wales’ Regiment.
However, Sarah Ferguson, when she was HRH The Duchess of York, did not hold any military appointments, despite her husband Prince Andrew’s long-standing service in the Royal Navy.
Their daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, as they are not senior “working” royals, do not hold any military honours.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, meanwhile holds honorary appointments including a position in the Desert Rats Association in memory of her father.
