Robert De Niro is gushing about daughter Gia, as the octogenarian celebrates his youngest’s first birthday.
The “Meet the Parents” star, 80, told Entertainment Tonight about the “very nice, sweet” celebration, which took place shortly before next week’s start of Tribeca Film Festival kickoff. De Niro is a co-founder of the annuial event.
“She had a little cake, it was very nice, sweet,” said the Oscar winner, who shares Gia with girlfriend Tiffany Chen. “She’s pure joy, there’s nothing about her, there’s no judgement, there’s no anything, she just is what she is and it’s just pure joy for God sakes.”
The “Taxi Driver’ star surprised everyone when he corrected an ET Canada reporter last May that his “six kids” were “seven, actually.”
“I just had a baby,” he said, noting neither when or with whom he’d welcomed his seventh child.
Two days later, De Niro told “CBS Mornings” that he and Chen, a martial arts instructor he met while working on 2015’s “The Intern” — planned the baby.
“She was brought here by love,” he told co-host Gayle King at the time.
DeNiro and Chen were first romantically linked in 2021. The “Good Fellas” star’s other six children — from his marriages to Diahnne Abbott and Grace Hightower and his relationship with Toukie Smith — range in age from 12 to 56.
Last summer, De Niro’s 19-year-old grandson Leandro, from adoptive daughter Drena De Niro, died of an overdose.
