A ride-share driver shot in the head during an apparent attempted robbery in Brooklyn has died, police said Wednesday.
Naveed Afzal, 52, was answering a call for a ride outside an apartment building on Lincoln Place near Underhill Ave. in Crown Heights around 10 p.m. last Thursday, the Daily News previously reported.
When he arrived, two men got into his back seat and a struggle ensued, ending with one of the men shooting Afzal in the face, police said.
The men took off on foot, leaving the critically injured man bleeding in the vehicle.
Medics rushed the victim to New York Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he died Sunday, police said.
Investigators believe the men tried to rob Afzal, who still had a cell phone and cash on him after the shooting, according to a police source. The men left behind a .380-handgun as they fled, the source said.
The victim, a Pakistani immigrant, had four children — three daughters and one son. The son is the youngest at 15, and the oldest daughter is 23, his roommates previously told the News.
He was working to bring his family to the U.S., where he believed his children would receive better educations, his roommates told The News on Friday.
Cops are still searching for the gunmen, who were described as between 18 and 25 years old and were wearing black hooded sweatshirts during the crime.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
