Remove shower screen limescale with kitchen item cleaner claims is a ‘magic quick fix’

Limescale will be the root of your streaky shower screens causing frustration. They can make it seem like the streaks just keep appearing, no matter how many times you clean them.

It is due to the minerals that naturally occur in the water supply. Warm moisture that lingers in the air just after you’ve showered causes the water to evaporate leaving the minerals to set on the screen, which is made worse when they mix with residue from your hair and body products.

Thankfully, cleaning expert and product development scientist at Astonish Olivia Young has shared the “best way” to remove limescale from shower screens for “streak-free and sparkling results”.

She said: “This foolproof guide to clean and shiny shower screens will turn your bathroom nightmares into dreams.”

The first step is to gather the supplies for the cleaning process – a microfibre cloth, a non-abrasive sponge, a squeegee and white vinegar.

Step two is to spay your shower screen. For those who want a “magic and effective quick fix”, Olivia recommends opting for opt for a vinegar-based spray cleaner, or you can utilise normal white vinegar by putting it into a spray bottle if you already have some to hand.

She said: “This will work as the acidity breaks down limescale and soap scum.

“Simply spray the white vinegar all over the screens, paying close attention to areas affected most by limescale buildup.”

Whilst white vinegar is effective in cleaning, the solution itself can sometimes leave unwanted smells lingering after use.

To avoid this, Olivia suggests using the Astonish White Vinegar Spray which comes in a zesty citrus or gardenia and vanilla scent.

After the solution has had time to “work its magic”, use a non-abrasive sponge to scrub the screen gently.

Focus on areas with heavy limescale build-up. Avoid using abrasive pads or brushes as they can scratch the glass surface.

Once you’ve scrubbed away the limescale, rinse the shower screen thoroughly with clean water. Ensure that all product traces are removed to “prevent streaks”.

Next, use a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth to dry the shower screen completely. Microfibre is “excellent at absorbing water without leaving streaks”, claimed Olivia.

Households can pick up a pack of four microfibre clothes on Amazon for £3.49, from Dunelm for £2.40 or from The Range for £3.49.
