Cleaning is not a fun chore for many, especially when it comes to dusting. You may feel like it’s a task that needs tackling daily.
September right through to January sees many culprits that lead to accumulations of dust around the home.
While keeping your home cosy is paramount, this lack of ventilation is often the common cause of dust problems.
The reduced airflow in the colder months means dust is more prone to settle on your household surfaces, and it might feel like no amount of dusting can tackle it.
But fear not, a cleaning guru has suggested that a homemade solution using just four ingredients can banish stubborn dust for longer.
Taking to her TikTok page @carolina.mccauley, Carolina has shared a video on how to have a “dust-free home” in no time.
She captioned the video: “Wave goodbye to constant dusting with my no-so-secret-anymore magic spray.”
For this method, grab a spray bottle and add two cups of water with one-quarter cup of white vinegar, one tablespoon of olive oil, three drops of washing-up liquid and citrus essential oil – the last one is optional.
Then spray a microbe cloth with the solution and wipe down the dusty areas around your home with it.
Carolina claimed this spray “completely removes and repels dust”. She advised: “Repeat monthly for a dust-free home.”
Fellow TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on this hack. @mandy359 replied: “My house literally gets dusty by the end of the day but I haven’t had to dust it in over one month.”
@kellypronti wrote: “I do this. Keeps the dust at bay 100 percent. I don’t dust nearly as much as I used to and I have three dogs.”
@livingthedream said: “Thank you. This works well. I have tried everything and nothing has worked.”
However, some disagreed with this method. @jerrymoe warned: “You will have a horrible film on your furniture. Not good at all.”
@kevind urged: “Don’t spray oil on surfaces! It gets sticky and attracts dust.” @tea52p warned: “The oil in the mixture actually attracts dust, plus who wants oily walls? I’ve been a professional house cleaner for 35 years. Don’t overcomplicate.”
