Rashford and Garnacho absences explained as Man Utd pair absent from squad vs Man City

Manchester United have confirmed that Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are not injured after Ruben Amorim omitted both from his squad at Manchester City. The Red Devils boss has brutally swung the axe as he bids to end the club’s long-term hoodoo in away matches against their main Premier League rivals.

Amorim has named three changes from last weekend’s 3-2 Premier League defeat against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

Andre Onana starts in goal, with Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez alongside Harry Maguire as United’s back three.

Amorim praised Maguire for his impact off the bench against Forest and handed him a starting berth to replace Leny Yoro.

Noussair Mazraoui returns to the starting line-up as the right-wing-back, with Diogo Dalot continuing on the left.

Manuel Ugarte keeps his place in central midfield, with Bruno Fernandes dropping deeper to partner him as Kobbie Mainoo moves to the bench.

In attack, Amad pushes into a more advanced position alongside Mason Mount, replacing Garnacho, on either side of United’s in-form striker, Rasmus Hojlund.

Man Utd XI vs Man City: Onana; Maguire, De Ligt, Martinez; Mazraoui, Ugarte, Fernandes, Dalot; Amad, Mount, Hojlund.
