Two men were wounded as a gunman shot into a car before being chased off by police, who fired one shot in the incident in Queens early Saturday morning, cops said.
Patrolling officers were responding to the sound of gunfire when they found the gunman shooting into a black Toyota on Roosevelt Ave. near 89th St. in East Elmhurst around 3:15 a.m., police said.
The gunman fled north on 89th Street, and one officer fired off a round amid the chaos. That shot did not strike anyone, and it was not immediately clear if the cop was aiming for the suspect, according to police.
The gunman struck a 44-year-old man in the torso, and a 28-year-old man was found at the scene with a gunshot wound to the groin, cops said.
Both victims were taken to NY Health and Hospitals Elmhurst, where they were listed in stable condition.
Police set up a crime scene on Roosevelt Ave. centered on the bullet-riddled Toyota Yaris, its hood crumpled and driver-side window smashed. A trail of blood was visible stretching from the wrecked auto to the corner of 89th St.
No arrests have been made.
