Sony is about to reveal the PlayStation Plus games for October 2024. If Sony sticks to the traditional schedule, then the next wave of free PS4 and PS5 games will unveiled at 4.30pm BST UK time on the afternoon of September 25. The games will then be available to download and play on the morning of October 1. However, there’s a good chance the October 2024 games will be announced early, specifically during the imminent State of Play event, which takes place at 11pm BST UK time on September 24. Sony has a history of announcing the occasional PS Plus game during State of Play events, including the likes of Oddworld: Soulstorm and Destruction AllStars.
If Sony does announce the PS Plus games for October, then don’t be surprised if something big gets added to the line-up.
It’s also Halloween, which means at least one horror game is likely to join the service.
Previous October PS Plus games include The Calisto Protocol, Vampyr, Mortal Kombat X and The Last of Us Remastered on PS4.
With this in mind, I wouldn’t be totally shocked if something like The Last of Us Part 2 joined the PlayStation Plus Essentials line-up this October.
The game appears multiple times in the monthly PS Plus predictions thread over on Reddit, alongside the likes of Hades and Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil In Me.
Resident Evil Village also gets a couple of mentions, alongside zombie games Dead Island 2 and Dying Light 2.
Another realistic choice is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which is a third-person asymmetrical horror game and perfect for both PS Plus and Halloween.
Similar to last month, there are lots of picks for action role-playing game Atomic Heart.
The game left Xbox Game Pass at the end of August, which has led to speculation that it will join PlayStation Plus at some point in the near future.
The usual suspects of Viewfinder, WWE 2K24, Forspoken, and Suicide Squad also make the list, with one user suggesting that the latter is a “slam dunk” to join PS Plus.
It would certainly help publisher Warner Bros. drum up some interest in the game, which has so far been a massive flop.
